Manhattan Theatre Source Shuttering in January

Manhattan Theatre Source, the Off-Off-Broadway performance venue located in Greenwich Village, will permanently shut down in January. In a written statement, MTS board member Doug Silver explained the closing by citing a growing deficit and "the terrible economy" that "has badly hurt small theatre companies in NYC…the companies that we depend on to rent our theatre all year long." Despite no longer having a home, the Source will keep seeking new opportunities to produce shows and support performers in new venues.

Since its founding in 2000, MTS provided nearly 10,000 artists the chance to work in roughly 1,000 productions, many of which came from emerging playwrights and composers.
