NY Conversations Screening of DETACHMENT + Q&A with Academy Award Winner Adrien Brody - RSVP Today!

DetachmentJoin the Screen Actors Guild Foundation for a New York Conversations Screening of DETACHMENT followed by a moderated question and answer session with Adrien Brody on Thursday, March 15th.

Director Tony Kaye's (AMERICAN HISTORY X) long-awaited film DETACHMENT stars Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he's not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world.

Kaye has molded a contemporary vision of people who become increasingly distant from others while still feeling the need to connect. DETACHMENT features a stellar ensemble cast, including Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and newcomers Sami Gayle and Betty Kaye.

This event will be moderated by David Fear, Film Editor, Time Out New York

The SAG Foundation together with Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Spirit Awards, today announced an expanded partnership for the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards Screening Series in association with Independent Filmmaker Project, and the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway. Under this agreement, the four organizations will come together to host the 2012 New York theatrical screenings of Film Independent Spirit Award-nominated films.

The exclusive, members-only theatrical screening series will be held at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, an event space at New York Institute of Technology, in New York City from January 9 to February 10. This marks the 25th consecutive year that IFP members have voted to help determine the winners of the Spirit Awards and the third consecutive year the SAG Foundation has teamed up with Film Independent.

“We are thrilled to be working with these incredible organizations in support of the Spirit Awards,” said Jill Seltzer, Executive Director, SAG Foundation. “This partnership maintains the Foundation’s commitment to actors, and celebrates this year’s achievements in independent film.” This expands on the existing relationship between Film Independent and the SAG Foundation, which previously centered around the SAG Foundation’s Actors Center hosting press screenings for the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Post "True Blood" Q&A with Janina Gavankar

Video: Back Stage at the SAG Foundation Presents--Janina Gavankar, Star currently on HBO's hit show "True Blood."

Moderated by: Zino Macaluso

She will be sharing her tips regarding how young Hollywood is using and can best use social media.

Already a favorite of the devoted fans of her two earlier series, The L Word and The Gates, Janina now plays Luna on True Blood. She is a shape-shifter, which pretty much describes Janina in her real life.

In addition to her starring roles in three series, the three-quarters Indian, one-quarter Dutch beauty has appeared in Stargate Atlantis, Grey's Anatomy, The Cleaner, Dollhouse, NCIS  and Three Rivers.

But there’s also Janina the Geek, who not only writes program code for friends, but who was also the first celebrity to sign up with Twitter. She is so technologically creative that she is regularly asked to be on panels at conferences educating the entertainment industry on the practical application of multiple new digital platforms. Follow her on twitter @Janina.

Event Type: Conversations
Title: True Blood
Date: Tuesday, October 11th 2011
Time: 7pm
Location:  SAG Foundation Actors Center
                        5757 Wilshire Blvd, Mezzanine
                        Los Angeles
