DGA Sets Negotiation Timeline with Producers
Directors Guild of America President Taylor Hackford announced Wednesday that his organization has “reached an understanding with the AMPTP to begin formal negotiations for a new agreement in mid-November of this year, after the scheduled AFTRA-SAG negotiations begin on October 1.” In his analysis of this development on Forbes.com, entertainment attorney Jonathan Handel said this, along with the DGA’s plan to informally negotiate before November, will be further incentive for SAG and AFTRA to get a deal done by the end of their 45-day negotiation with AMPTP. Furthermore, according to Handel, it may prevent the actors’ unions from significantly changing new media provisions in their contracts, and force them to coordinate their proposals to the producers with that of their directorial associates.
