SAG Joins Fight for Composers’ Union

Quincy The Screen Actors Guild has joined the Writers Guild of America in support of film and TV composers and lyricists and their bid to unionize by joining with Teamsters Local 399, according to Variety. The letter of support was read at an organization meeting attended by about 200 people Monday night in Beverly Hills. Several high profile composers and songwriters have joined the cause, including Hans Zimmer, Quincy Jones, Randy Newman, and Diane Warren. TV producers Steven Bochco and Dick Wolf, along with directors Ron Howard and Ed Zwick, have also pledged support. Coordinators insist that the union would focus on medical benefits and pension plans, not work conditions or wage minimums.
