NBC Greenlights Musical Pilot

NBC just picked up "Smash," a new drama series about the creation of a fictional Broadway musical, according to Playbill. Each season would focus on one musical, following its journey from conception to opening night. The pilot is in the early stages of development. Steven Spielberg is one of the show's executive producers with Tony Award-winning songwriters Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman penning the fictional musical's songs.
