iPad TV App Raising Concerns
Time Warner Cable's new iPad app, which lets live TV be streamed to homes, vexes several media companies, reported the Wall Street Journal. Even though Time Warner argued it has the rights to transmit TV channels to any device in someone's home as long as it doesn't send signals through the "open Internet," some executives reportedly believe that the service violates their Time Warner contracts. The app also causes two more concerns: it may encourage viewers to not buy cable and satellite subscriptions, and Nielisen does not currently include iPad viewing on its standard TV ratings. A spokesperson told WSJ that there's a solution in development for the latter.
