'Baby' You're Sued; Teleprompter Inventor Dies

DionneThe Associated Press and The Village Voice reported that several musicians, including Beverly Lee of The Shirelles, Dionne Warwick, and Chuck Jackson, are suing the producers of the Broadway musical "Baby, It's You!" They claim the show uses their names and likenesses without permission. The musical, which opens tonight, traces the career of record executive Florence Greenberg, who discovered several acts, such as The Shirelles.•

• Hubert J. 'Hub' Schlaflay Jr., inventor of the teleprompter, died late last week at the age of 91. He built the machine after Broadway actor Fred Barton asked for help remembering his lines. Read his obituary at The Hollywood Reporter.

• The Screen Actors Guild will host its annual health fair at the guild’s Los Angeles headquarters May 4, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The event will feature free body-fat analyses, skin cancer exams, and other fun attractions for members.

• The Broadway Education Alliance is now accepting nomination applications for the Gershwin Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in musical theater by high school students.
