Y'Ever Have One Of Those Days?

Today wasn't a bad day, unless one's level of productivity determines the quality of the day, then, yes, it was a very bad day. Yesterday I had two auditions, then went to the dentist for scaling/ root planing. Allergies were beating me up all day long, and since I couldn't feel the left side of my face (it was numb from the dental work), I also couldn't keep my nose from running, nor could I actually feel when it was running. Thankfully I didn't have to be out around people. Finally, I took a Benedryl, and it knocked me out. This morning I couldn't get out of bed. I didn't feel sick, just incredibly tired. I finally dragged myself out of bed at 11:15, ate breakfast, and made a few phone calls. I had a lot of things on my "to do" list, but when 2:50PM found me standing by the closet trying to figure out what to wear, I gave up. I did make it to the gym, and I cooked a wonderful dinner for myself. Other than that, today was a wash.

I guess these kinds of days are important though. When I worked in corporate America sometimes I would take a 'sanity day' and call in sick when I really just needed a day to myself. In running my acting business, there is no one to call, no one to pick up the slack for the day while I sit on the sofa and eat bon bons. There are people on my team: my agents, my manager...but they have other clients. The responsibility for my career is mine alone, and I wouldn't have it any other way...but every now and then a little 'hooky' is in order. I won't lie and say that I don't feel some guilt over it - Like I'm moving backwards if I'm not moving forward - but I'm trying to shush that voice in favor of the one that says it's okay for me to take care of me, and 'taking care of me' takes many forms. Today it took the form of a sloth.

But I did get in just under 11,500 steps today. That's gotta count for something.

Happy Earth Day, everybody!
