Feeling Like Crap in the City of Angels
Sorry I haven't been here much this week, but I haven't felt at all well. At first I attributed my mild malaise to overconsumption of artificial sweeteners. I've been trying to kick the sugar habit, and while using fake sugar to do it is exchanging one chemical for another, I figured I'd step down to something that contains fewer calories until I can get the monkey off of my back altogether. I've since discovered (in abundance) Crystal Light, sugar-free popsicles, and lite Frappuccinos from Starbucks.
Yesterday when I woke up, I was extremely lethargic, and my throat felt like I had been swallowing hot rocks. I went to the doctor and paid $15 (co-pay) to be told that it wasn't strep and that it was 'probably a virus' that would have to run it's course. Great. I'm fortunate that I had insurance.
Today it all hit me full force: body pain, weakness, killer cough, sore throat... I dragged myself up long enough to move from the bed to the sofa and make a few phone calls to clear my weekend. One minute I was talking to one of my pet birds, the next minute I was in a daze, lying on the floor. I guess I fell down - probably because I had only eaten soup all day. Still, in between catnaps (interrupted by coughing fits), I was waiting for the other shoe to drop: It's an unwritten LAW that I will get at least one same-day audition when I am either a.)about to leave town or b.)too sick to drive. Auditions are my means to a livelihood, so I try not to ever pray that I won't have one, but today, I came thiiiiis close. God must have had mercy on me. And mercy on the casting directors that would have had to watch me.
So I don't have much to say right now. Send me good vibes and happy thoughts. Hopefully I'll be back in the saddle by Monday. Gotta go...Nyquil is whisking me off to The Land of Nod, and I won't be responsible for whatever I type after this point.
icNoel, you are kwrazee! I hope you feel better real soon. My prayers are with you.
