Jem is Truly Outrageous, Truly Truly Truly Outrageous!

Word on the street is that my beloved 80's cartoon Jem is being turned into a movie. Yes it's still in the infancy stage AND who knows how long it'll take before the casting process actually begins AND it's a possibility they'll royally screw up one of my favorite shows AND blah blah blah so what! The point is, this movie will introduce a character to a whole generation of people who have never heard of her before and for that I'm super excited. I LOVED this show as a child- yes watched it, loved it, knew all the songs and everything- and definitely related more to the truly, truly, truly outrageous Jem rather than Shana, the black drummer. As a child you don't see color, you just know you want to be the star. That's fine & dandy in elementary school but as you get older you realize color-blind casting can't won't always happen. My first experience with this was my junior year of high school when I auditioned for the role of Mary in The Crucible and was instead cast as Tituba. It's hilarious to me now that I even auditioned for that role in the first place but instead of getting mad about the infrequency of color-blind casting I now know I just have to make it work for me.

So now that John Chu is being tapped as the director and Peter Barsocchini as the writer and/or producer, I'll happily be on the lookout for auditions for the role of Shana. Of course, there is that whole playing the drums thing...
